Evaluation
Evaluation is a specific type of inquiry that involves determining the merits of a product or programme. Different methods are used for different types of evaluation. For example, evaluating the effectiveness of a backpack may involve physical measurements of forces and temperature affecting the body. Conversely, evaluating a road safety programme aimed at improving the safety of young drivers might include more qualitative methods. Formative evaluation focuses on the logic and quality of what was delivered whereas summative evaluation involves measuring outcomes or impacts and comparing them with targets or success thresholds.
