Lily's background is in social research and cultural anthropology. Her PhD focused on passenger behaviour in the dense crowding conditions of Mumbai's local trains (India). The application of Lily's research skills in the field of transport includes rail, road safety, and active transport initiatives. Since joining Mackie Research, Lily has been at the forefront of developing a coding framework to better understand the Safe System factors contributing to crashes on New Zealand's roads. By identifying latent system conditions it is hoped that they can be better addressed, to reduce the burden of road fatalities and serious injuries. Lily has trained in Future Search techniques under Sandra Janoff and has skills in designing workshops that help participants to build common ground. Outside of work she enjoys learning circus skills, rock climbing, and tramping.
